I have a story to tell. It’s not my story but the story of many mothers across the world.
I am a single mom. Many years ago my husband died from a terrible
disease. I have 5 beautiful children, ages 1, 3, 6, 7, and 10. We struggle but we make ends meet. We live off food stamps and the kids have a medical card. I don’t have any other family to help out so it’s just me and the kids. I have not been feeling well so I have not been able to work. I went to the doctor and my fears became reality. I too have that terrible disease. The doctor said I may only have a year to live. I don’t have insurance or a job so I can’t afford the medication I need to live. I have seen it before so I know what to expect. The last days of life are horrible and scary. I don’t want my children to watch me pass away. Who will come get them after I’m gone? Will they know what to do? Who will take care of them when I die? Will someone take advantage of them? Will they be sold into slavery? My heart is heavy and my soul cries out for help.

There is only one thing I can do. I must make arrangements for my children, to protect them. I want to make sure they are feed, safe, and loved. What will people think? Will they look down on me for making this decision? I have to do this! This is not about me but my children. I love them so much. I don’t want them to see the suffering of this disease. I don’t want them to have to care for me as I die in their arms.

I did it. I called the social services office. They are going to find my children a home with a mother and father who can love and care for them. I am torn between grief and joy. I will miss them. They are my life, my joy. Yet, I am so happy that they will be safe and happy. I love you my beautiful children.

I have been thinking a lot about the mothers who relinquish their children for adoption. There is a lot of controversy about this concept of relinquishment. I am not going to debate the wrongs and rights of relinquishment.

My heart hurts for these mothers. They know the alternative for their children so they make one last selfless act. They make sure that their children have a future. That they are safe. As I was writing this story I put myself in her shoes. What would I do in this situation? Honestly, I would make the same choice. I am grateful that I will probably never have to make that decision. I have the support of my husband, my extended family, and friends. I am truly blessed!!

Just wanted to share what I am thinking about this morning.

Today I am struggling with the knowledge that there are children in the world that are hungry. No, this is not new information to me. Since I was a child, I have been fully aware of the millions of children who go hungry every day. As a child I would tell my parents, "I am starving"! They were always quick to remind me what starving really looked like.

So, why is it so heavy on my heart today. Maybe it is because when I watch this video I can see my children. Maybe because I read an email this week about a little girl waiting to be adopted. She said, "I just want to go where I won't be hungry anymore". As a mother, it hurts to know that children are hungry. I am sure my heavenly Father, feels the same grief. He wants to feed his children physically and spiritually. Will you be HIS hands and feet to the hungry children?

Disney World Part 2

We were given a 3-day pass to Disney Parks, 2-day pass to Universal, and 1-day pass to SeaWorld. These passes were all included with the wonderful services provided by Give Kids the World Village in Kissimmee, Fl. I plan to elaborate on our time at the village and their amazing heart for children during another post.

I cannot even begin to tell you how grateful we are to the staff at the parks for making this an unforgettable experience. The little extra attention the kids received and the warm hugs from cast members will not be forgotten. It was PRICELESS!!!!

Here are some pictures of us with some of the characters we met during our visit.

Disney World Part 1

Well, the whole family has been sick with a head cold. I still feel like crap!! But, it's been a week and I am dying to share about our trip.

Let me start by saying this was a complete surprise to the kids. We did not even tell them we were taking a trip. I spent the week before we left doing laundry and packing suitcases in my closet so the kids would not find out.

The morning we left we woke the kids at 5:00a.m., got them dressed and into the car, which we already had packed up. When we got to the airport we told them the big surprise. At first they did not believe us so the excitement gradually increased though the day. Of course, none of our vacations go as planned. Our flight was to leave at 7:00a.m. but the plane had some mechanical issues so after sitting on the plane for over an hour we de-boarded and sat in the airport until they finally decided to cancel the flight. We did not end up leaving until 1:45p.m. We finally arrived in Florida around 7:30p.m. and did not get settled into our room until 9:30p.m. It was a long day but the kids did really well.

Here are some pics from our travel day. The first video is from 5:30a.m. on our first adventure to the airport. The second video is from around 11:30a.m. on our way back to the airport to catch our rescheduled flight.

DISNEY WORLD!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Jacob received his wish from the Lexington Dream Factory. So for his birthday we took the family to Give Kids the World Village in Orlando, Florida. We had access to Disney World, Sea World, and Universal Studios. As soon as I get ALL the pictures and videos uploaded I will have lots to share. In the meantime here are links to the two wonderful organizations that made this trip possible.
